Also, remember to add me to your Twitter and subscribe to this blog via RSS.

If you own a blog, connect to me on BlogCatalog or join my MyBlogLog community.

There are also other ways to connect - share your bookmarks with me as well.

[Update] I should probably add my Google Reader feed as well, for those who are interested.

Enterprise Web Analytics For Free

IndexTools COO Dennis Mortensen writes on his blog VisualRevenue that IndexTools (bought by Yahoo!) willl be free for Yahoo clients.

Yahoo! currently intends to provide the IndexTools Web Analytics service FREE of charge to clients and partners who accept the standard Yahoo! agreement.

All you have to do is accept the standard Yahoo! agreement. This is excellent news in the web analytics field, and will provide a strong competitor to Google Analytics.

Dennis Mortensen claims that IndexTools has 80% of Omniture’s features. With the upcoming upgrade of IndexTools web analytics system, that will probably place IndexTools as the tool of choice for many enterprise businesses.

Affiliate Networks in Europe: Sweden

Affiliate money makingAffiliate marketing is not rocket science, but it requires some good affiliate management to be really successful at it. For one thing, a lot of times affiliate marketing is best optimized per market. If you can get a good pan-European deal with one affiliate network, you should probably go for that. However, it may pay to look at each market in detail, and use a number of affiliate networks in your online marketing mix.

In this series with affiliate networks, the turn has come to look at Sweden. Read more…

Social Media is Dangerous

… but then isn’t life in general? The NY Times brought the news that blogging can be a dangerous addiction, where 3 Americans have died the past six months from stress and unhealthy living. Disregarding the unhealthy lifestyle of many Americans in general (let’s face it, it’s not exemplary), being a full-time blogger can be detrimental to a person’s health. But as Problogger Darren Rowse puts it, a lot of jobs are stressful and there is no evidence that being a blogger is more stressful than other professions.

Blood pressure monitorNotably, Darren mentions that he was diagnosed with high blood pressure in the same post.

If you are a social media professional (blogger, marketer or otherwise), get your own blood pressure monitor, or consider updating your own lifestyle.

I think you need to take articles like the one in the NY Times with a grain of salt - unless you know you are in the danger zone yourself. There is no substitute for a balanced lifestyle, even though you don’t have to overdo it.

There are numerous lifehacking sites out there, helping you balance your health with working effectively and efficiently. Check out Zen Habits for great tips on keeping healthy.

In the wake of the NY Times article, there will probably pop up at least a dozen blogger posts with 25 ways to be a healthy blogger. Sure, you can list lots of tips, but I think when it comes down to it, balancing your life is individual, and there is not a single recipe for all. However, there are two important aspects to balance in your life; food and exercise. It’s that simple.

  • Eat smart. You don’t have to be perfect and eat only vegetables or follow some strict diet. But do stay away from large quantities of sugar-packed products - they will increase your stress level and lower your stamina.
  • Exercise. You don’t have to go to the gym every day, but do try to stay active in a way that fits your lifestyle. If you are a problogger working from home, get out running or on a bicycle three times a week - and stick to it. I play volleyball (and beach volleyball in the summer) and I love it. Find your own way, and stick to it.

Whether you’re a professional blogger or not, you need to balance your health with work, same as you need to make space for your personal life. Trust me, you’ll be a lot happier if you balance your life, and don’t overdo it on work, blogging or other activities.

How do you balance your life? Do you make time for yourself and your health?
